This year’s World Retail Congress was an exciting event , which focused on the theme “Reimagining the Customer Experience.” Held in Dubai, the Congress brought together 1,500 attendees including 150 industry leaders and experts to discuss key trends impacting the global retail sector. Consumers have changed the way they interact with brands, and the retail sector knows it must change as well. This is why retailers must figure out how to include digital technologies paired with innovation in their strategies.

As always, the event had some amazing speakers, including Terry Lundgren of Macy’s and Laura Xiong of JD Mall. The common topic among keynote speakers, of course, was customer experience. The speakers discussed the important challenge of creating meaningful relationships with consumers to gain their loyalty through an omnichannel strategy.

The World Retail Congress also recognized a number of campaigns that occurred throughout the year, from such brands as Macy’s, Tommy Hilfiger, and Mark & Spencer. Retailing has always been driven by entrepreneurs and the best practices applied during the customer journey, and the event awarded the sector’s best companies and people in seven different categories.

It is clear that retailers must understand the importance of knowing their customers, because only with such knowledge can they offer the perfect experience—both online and in-store—through omnichannel strategies based on consumer data produced by a variety of interactions.
